It was a sunny day in Loefjesland. Unfortunately that didn’t dismiss the children from having to go to school. But since the sun was shining the desks of the pupils were put outside. The pupils sat there two by two at each desk on a stool for their own. Kannelijntje and Loreliefje as best friends were sitting next to each other and both dreaming away.
Kannelijntje looked up to the beautiful blue sky. Every now and than she saw birds happily chanting flying back and forth. Thanks to her mother she recognized every bird, each insect, every bush, tree, plant and flower. Everything she needed to know about nature she knew because of her mother. Her mother seemed to know everything about it. Despite Kannelijntje knowing so much about nature and being a fairy, she still needed to take classes about nature. She was glad they were sitting outside as that gave her a chance to dream away easier. Here she could enjoy looking at the birds and the insects. Especially the humming of the bees sounded as music to her ears.
Her attention particularly went to the birds. She was constantly watching two pigeons which were flying back and forth with twigs and dried grass. Clearly they formed a couple that was building a nest together. When two pigeons fell in love with each other it was called turtling. That’s why a Loefje and Liefje being in love and giving each other sweet kisses, were called turtledoves. The nice thing about it was that Kannelijntje knew one of the pigeons. It was the male whose name was Ferdi. He came to wake up Kannelijntje every morning with his singing. When Ferdi was still a small pigeon he had fallen from its nest breaking one of his legs in the process. Ferdi’s parents couldn’t do anything for him any more. Priscilla heard him weeping though and took him with her. At home she took care of him and fed him. Kannelijntje aided her mother there and learned a lot about birds that way. Kannelijntje named him Ferdi. Thanks to Ferdi she could imitate the ruku sound that pigeons make perfectly. Thanks to their good care, Ferdi grew rapidly. His parents moved though so they couldn’t send him back to them. The problem was that Ferdi had to be taught to fly. Once he was fully grown he would be to heavy to learn it. Priscilla tried a few times to learn him to fly. But since Priscilla was not an animal fairy she couldn’t give him the confidence he needed. Fortunately Dendrona and Tiluca came on a visit right in time. Tiluca, being an animal fairy took care of Ferdi considering flight lessons. It took a lot of effort but she succeeded in learning Ferdi to fly. Thanks to her Ferdi could fly very well now. Until this day he was grateful to the fairies for this and he showed this by waking up Kannelijntje and her family each morning.
Ferdi took Kanellijntje and Loreliefje with him on his back to show them around. So high up in the sky the world looked wonderful. Loreliefje’s mother wasn’t so keen on her daughter doing that as she was scared that her daughter would fall of. But she nevertheless tolerated it when Kannelijntje was there. Kannelijntje held on to her friend well and could dive after her if she was to fall. Kannelijntje did have her wings too. Ferdi didn’t have time for this now. He had found himself a partner, named Herlinde. If they were building a nest now this meant that Herlinde would be laying eggs soon. It was a strange thought for Kannelijntje that the always playful Ferdi would become a father. Kannelijntje didn’t doubt however that Ferdi would be a loving and considerate parent for his children. Now he did give Kannelijntje a welcome distraction. Once the eggs were laid, Ferdi would definitely want to show these to Kannelijntje and Loreliefje.
Kannelijntje got out of her daydream by a hard smack on her wooden desk. Kannelijntje shrieked so hard that she almost fell of her stool. Loreliefje also shrieked and ended up spoiling the nicely flower drawing she was trying to make. Normally they warned each other when the teacher was coming for them, but this time neither had been paying attention. “Kannelijntje, is it nice up there?” the teacher spoke annoyed. “Do you know what I was talking about?” She looked at Kannelijntje rigidly. Zoralief was young and pretty, let’s say 20 years of age. She had dark brown curly hair and a tanned skin. Kanenlijntje saw her often sunbathing on warm days. A tanned skin was pretty but it was not so healthy to lay in the sun for too long. She was tall and slender too. What a difference with her older sister Doralief who was also teaching. Doralief had red hair, was small and chubby. Her skin was more pink and she always had rosy cheeks. She was very nice and always smiling. She took the kids outside into nature, walking and watching around, great fun. With Zoralief they always had to stay at their desks, so boring it was. No wonder Loreliefje and Kannelijntje often started dreaming way during Zoralief’s classes. Zoralief was unable to smile too, only when there were good looking men around. Than she could show her white teeth. Kannelijntje thought Zoralief had had a lot of lovers . But because she was such a boring bitch, the guys left her soon. It was incredible how different Zoralief was with Doralief. Doralief was married to Fransloef. Fransloef was tall and handsome and loved his little wife dearly. Doralief was pregnant too. That was the reason Zoralief had to teach much more than her sister at the moment. And unfortunately Kannelijntje was again victim of Zoralief’s anger. Kannelijntje couldn’t give an answer on the teacher’s question, because the girl didn’t pay attention at all. Kannelijntje looked at Loreliefje hoping that her friend could help her out here. Zoralief pulled a finger towards Loreliefje and spoke: “And you are not going to foretell her this time!” Loreliefje was probably not being able to foretell her friend but now she had become totally silent out of fear of the teacher. “Stupid bitch!” Kannelijnje was thinking of Zoralief. Loreliefje was already having a hard time with studying. But do you think the teacher would spend some more time helping out Loreliefje? No Zoralief was too busy too look godo for the boys. Fortunately Kannelijntje was there to help Loreliefje with studying.
The teacher looked again at Kannelijntje and barked: “Kannelijntje couldn’t answer her. She shrugged and said: “I don’t know Ms Zoralief.” Zoralief shook her head and whispered something that sounded like: “It’s always the same with that fairy girl” Then she spoke clearly: “I was talking about spider webs which are everywhere now that the summer has come!” Kannelijntje shivered. It seemed like the teacher knew that Kannelijntje had been having a scary dream about a spider. Kannelijntje had been dreaming she got stuck into a spider’s web and the spider almost got her. “You know how useful spiders can be, don’t you?” Zoralief continued. Kannelijntje shook her head and spoke: “Spiders are scary and also catch insects in their webs. They even catch useful insects such as butterflies and bees.” Zoralief said: “That is true but they also help us to get rid of annoying insects such as flies and mosquitoes!” “Every insects is useful!” Kanenlijntje shouted “Even flies are. Didn’t you know flies discard garbage?”
“Who has been making you believe this? Your mum, didn’t she?” spoke the teacher in a denigrating way. “No, I did ask a fly once myself.”Kannelijntje spoke “She was sitting on an excrement and I was asking why she did that. She told me that in excrements were many nutritious ingredients. That’s how she contributes to discarding it and other dirt too.” The teacher gave Kannelijntje a disgusted face as if she thought Kannelijntje was that shitty fly. “Ew you are so disgusting!” the teacher spoke “Those dirty animals need to die!” She had barely said that or something fell down on her hat. It was dripping down. Kannelijntje saw it was a white and liquid. When the teacher felt the substance on her nose, she rubbed over her nose with her hand. She looked at the milky liquid and said: “Ew, what’s that?”
Kannelijntje looked up and saw that Ferdi was circling above them. Kannelijntje knew immediately that it was him who had been dropping something. She had to laugh, as she realized very well what he had dropped. It was as if he wanted to teach that dumb teacher a lesson too. Kannelijntje put her hand on her mouth to hold back a laugh. The teacher looked up and noticed Ferdi too. When she realized what it was she reacted disgusted: “Ew so disgusting!” She was searching for a handkerchief in the pockets of her skirt. “Kannelijntje spoke not being able to suppress a laugh: Oh don’t panic, Ms Zoralief pigeon’s shit is very nutritious. In a bit the flies will eat it!” Loreliefje busted into laughter too. This caused a whol revolution as all the pupils started laughing now. There was only person not laughing and that was Ms Zoralief. This was understandable as she was the victim of this situation and was being laughed at. But from a sour puss you couldn’t expect anything else. Her sister would have laughed with that. The chance was non existing though that Ferdi would drop something on a nice teacher like Doralief.
Just when Ms Zoralief seemed going to explode in anger, the bell went. It was Kannelijntje’s brother, Maxime who made a system with a hourglass. Once the last piece of sand had dropped, a mechanism started which triggered two wooden figures with a hammer knocking a bell alternating. This meant the end of school. All kids quickly took tehir stuff and put those in their bags. Than they all hurried home. Kanenlijntje and Loreliefje looked at each other with a big smile and were both thinking: “Saved by the bell!”. They were happy not only because they could go home, but because they could spend some time together into the flower field. Their parents gave them permission to make a trip through the flower field in the afternoon.
